lindenpartners advises REW Untermain on regional participation model for wind energy project

REW Untermain GmbH (REW), with the support of lindenpartners, has entered into an agreement with Qair, a European independent renewable energy developer, operator and producer, to establish a regional participation model in connection with the development and operation of a wind energy project.

The project comprises five wind turbines with a planned total capacity of approximately 34 MW, to be located in the priority wind area “Am Dachsberg”. Commissioning is scheduled for 2030. Once operational, the project is expected to generate around 56 million kWh of electricity per year—enough to supply approximately 20,000 two-person households with locally produced green energy.

The agreement is designed to strengthen regional value creation and builds on the active involvement of local municipalities in the project’s development. In addition to enabling municipalities and regional companies to participate in the operating entity, the model also provides opportunities for citizen participation. Furthermore, the agreement includes a structured funding mechanism providing annual contributions to non-profit organisations in the region.

REW was founded by municipalities in the district of Miltenberg and the city of Aschaffenburg, together with regional energy providers and the Untermain energy cooperative, with the aim of advancing the expansion of renewable energy in the region. The broader objective is to actively shape the local energy transition while ensuring that value creation remains within the region. Projects are structured in close cooperation with municipalities to ensure that both citizens and the local economy benefit from a fair and inclusive transition.

lindenpartners advised REW on the conclusion of the agreement. In recent years, the firm has increasingly focused on the energy sector, in particular advising on transactions involving battery energy storage systems (BESS), wind farms and photovoltaic projects. The engagement was carried out in cooperation with the energy law boutique von Bredow Valentin Herz (vBVH), with whom lindenpartners regularly collaborates on renewable energy projects.

The advisory team at lindenpartners included Patrick Hinz (Associated Partner), Dr Alexander von Rummel (Partner) and Franziska Lohse (Associate).
